Terminalia catappa "Indian Almond" Organic Well-Established Plant
We sell these very rare and exciting plants in a standard 7-10" size. They are organically grown and fully established. T. catappa's true origin in uncertain as humans have spread this plant throughout the world's tropics. It is most commonly found in Africa and Australia and sometimes Asia. It is a large tree that reaches heights of approximately 100ft. I has massive leaves that form a wide, flat spreading crown, which makes this an excellent shade tree. The bark has a very flattering reddish tone complimenting the leaves that turn bright red before dropping for the dry season. It offers small edible seeds that are found in large corky shells.
Traditional & Modern Use:
T. catabba's leaves are an excellent source of antioxidents and also have been used in traditional medicine as a liver tonic, anti-cancer and anti-diarrheal. They also are commonly added to water to reduce pH levels in water and to reduce heavy metals as well, which is why the aquarium industry is catching on to this fascinating tree.
