The "mature" vine has the oldest soul and therefore the most respected. The vine is whole pieces up to 2-3" thick! This is the best way to keep the spirit healthy. The "Red" strain is extremely rare and is said to embrace the most welcoming soul of any of the Ayahuasca vines. McKenna himself recognized this as being true and began his own plantation on the Hawaiian islands. We happily welcome our new growers in Peru as they offer us these premium mature organic vine specimens.
Tradition:
Each tribe has a very specific origin myth associated with the vine. Most names translate to mean "vine of souls" or "vine of the dead" as it is believed that the departed climb to heaven on the vines. This fits well with the common motif of the "World Tree" or "Axis Mundi". The roots are the underworld, the trunk the middle world or realm of people, and the canopy would be symbolic of the ethereal realm. Symbolism is complex and variable among the tribes. Many have a story about how an ancient ancestor received the vine from a god. Then it was given to all people for healing.
