The B. caapi plant has been recognized for its shamanic potential for hundreds of years as a respected admixture to the religious Ayahuasca brew. The other primary ingredient is Psychotria viridis which is understood to provide the “light” while B. caapi provides the “force”. Many believe that the vines were the only part of the plant used for divinatory purposes, but in fact several Indian tribes commonly used B. caapi leaves either on their own or as an additive to brews or smoking blends.
