The "mature" vine has the oldest soul and therefore the most poweful. The vine is shredded "per order" to preserve its presence. This Banisteriopsis caapi vine is the "cielo" strain, also known as "yellow" which is by far the most sought of the B. caapi. We happily welcome our new growers in Peru as they offer us these premium mature organic vine specimens.
Traditional Use:
Stories on ayahuasca vary from tribe to tribe and region to region. Ayahuasca, yage, caapi,etc. are all tribal names that refer to both the plant and the brew. Each tribe has a very specific origin myth associated with the vine. Most names translate to mean "vine of souls" or "vine of the dead" as it is believed that the departed climb to heaven on the vines. This fits well with the common motif of the "World Tree" or Axis Mundi. The roots are the underworld, the trunk the middle world or realm of people, and the canopy would be symbolic of the ethereal realm. Symbolism is complex and variable among the tribes. Many have a story about how an ancient ancestor received the vine from a god. Then it was given to all people for healing.
