The A. nilotica is one of the least familiar of the Acacia in the western world, although it has been used medicinally and spiritually throughout history by many societies from around the globe. Recent reports state that the leaves and roots of this strain of Acacia, like many Acacia, were commonly welcomed into the Ayahuasca ceremony in both South and Central America. The Maasai tribe in Africa has used the roots for spirituality for countless years. Almost every part of the plant has medicinal uses. The bark is used by African Zulu for coughs and diarrhea as well as an aphrodisiac, the gum is used to treat cancer in West Africa and in many food preparations by the Arabic, the leaves can be pounded and used to treat ulcers and Egyptian Nubians used the seedpods to allow diabetics to consume carbohydrates, safely.
