NOW SHIPPING WORLDWIDE FROM THE USA!
These plants are 8-14" in height and are organically grown and well-established. The species is native to the arid Southwestern US and into Northern Mexico. A. gregii is a multi-stemmed shrub to small tree that reaches heights of 5-20 feet. The heavily branched Acacia is covered in hooked thorns which lends it the common name of Cat's Claw. It has rather small light green compound leaves that make this variety excellent for bonsai presentations. The bark is gray to black which nicely compliments the dense clusters of butter-yellow flowers that are pleasingly fragrant, which always welcomes bees and butterflies! This outstanding Acacia makes a wonderful ornamental, perfect as a hedge plant. It is extremely tolerant of poor conditions and soil which make this a nice choice for arid regions and also does very well as a container plant.
Traditional & Modern Use:
A. gregii has been used as a food source, for fiber, and medicine. Many Native American tribes of the region found it to be a quite valuable species. The seeds and pods were roasted and made into flour. Medicinally the seeds, pods, leaves, and flowers all have historical usage with actions ranging from pain relief to diarrhea treatment.
